Can you tighten the ends on the steering rods?

Mine are lose, so can they be tightened? Or do they just have to be replaced?

The adjustment is for length only. They have to be replaced and are available as a kit with a new rod or ends only from AC. Do a google for some EPI aftermarkets..

You have to slide up the rubber boot...there are flats in there so you can get a 'skinny' half inch or 13 mm end wrench in there to hold the joint from rotating. Once you get it to pull into the taper then bear down hard.

I think the factory didn't tighten these very well at all.

Mine tightened up some but seem to wear quick. You have to put a wrench under at the boot. I think its 13mm but not for sure

He may be refering to the end in the knuckle(spindle) mine are loose as well. I haven't had them apart yet but am suspecting that either the id in the knuckle has elongated or the bolt has worn.

I recently upgraded my tierods and rodends. My rodends were not worn, but like you guys said they weren't very tight on the wheel side. The steering gear side was pretty tight and had locktite on it, the whell side didn't. Oh ya just remembered I had that side off the upgrade my wheelstuds! Neither tierod end has a taper to it either BTW-odd...

I have wildcat willy ones. Solid aluminum rods, spherical rodends. They guarantee the rods wont bend
