4 x 4 actuator, mind of its own!!

Whenever the 4 x 4 switch is in the off position I can here the electric 4 x 4 actuator cycling in and out. When the switch is in 4 x 4 it usually stays there until I switch it off then it goes all goofy again. Any ideas on what the problem is or anyone experience the same problem? Thanks ?

Yep. You probably have water in the actuator. Pull it apart, dry it out and reseal it.

I took out all the screws on the drivers side and pried a little but the side wouldn't come off, is that where it would be leaking and must come apart?

Rio you have been having a rough week with your machine. I hope u get it figured out. That's an expensive part to replace if you have to go that route. Hope the water is the problem and it resolves.

Yes , it's a little tough to get apart. If you end up needing one I have a new one just sitting here.

Ya I have a few minor issues this week, even last night while loading it on the trailer, got it on the trailer and decided to back it in the garage another 10 feet so I could strap it down as it was fricken cold, the damn thing rolled off the trailer into my pellet stove, no damage though, lol!!!LOL. I am going riding this weekend and will leave it in 4 x 4. Will take it apart on Monday and hopefully drying/resealing will fix the issue

    Rio,

You never posted what year your machine is, the 12 actuator has been good to go for 5,000 miles the 13 has ate 2 of them in 2,000 miles. I think they had a bad batch appear in the 13-14 models

Sorry Black Cat, it's a 2012 1000 with only 1,100 miles, just bought it used a few months ago with 550 miles. The actuator still works so I am hoping that pulling off the side and resealing it will fix it....I hope cause a new one will be mucho dinero in CDN dollars, lol!!

Took the actuator off but couldn't get it apart, didn't want to break it by prying. Put it by the pellet stove for awhile to dry it out then sealed the outside with RTV silicone. It was working when I first installed it back on the machine and today it doesn't work at all! Any ideas??

Those are a figity item to work on, if you look you can see where they put glue over the bolt holes that hold the gear in place. I tried to rebuild mine to but ended up with a new unit. The good news is they have superseded them with a new model. I have even toyed with the idea of rigging cables to engage things with, as they never break in a convenient place.
