Sad, RIP. I don't understand though, I thought SXSs were illegal to drive on the road in Cali? What was he doing on the road?

My thoughts also... I can only hope he took it without his parents permission. I don't know if I could live with myself if I let my I'd do something like that at 10 years old.

16 yr old driver & 10 yr old passenger, but still a tragedy. And if there was ever a chance side-by-sides would be allowed on CA rural roads, this pretty much ends it.

Sad news but it was a 16 year old behind the wheel. That area is in the boonies and Landers is a popular riding area so I can see if the Sheriffs didnt crack down too much on SXS riding in streets. Im guessing that will end that now. Sad for anyone to lose a life over something that would have been easily avoided.

Hi all, I'm sad to say that this happened to our family and friends. We are all of course completely heartbroken and devastated. Please send prayers for the family and all involved. There is a Go fund me link below (not sure if allowed) but prayers are more important. The details are as such. At apx 6:30pm last Sat night they were at camp doing campfire stuff smores etc. and wanted to go star
gazing. So 3 of them went to Giant rock for a better view.
My buddies 16yr old driver, my nephew 11yrs old, passenger, both are in one Cat. The father of the 11yr old following behind a few 100 ft in another Cat solo. They were all wearing helmets and 4 point harness etc. The father even buckled his own child in when they left the Rock after star gazing and taking some pics. They were headed back to the ranch on a dirt road apx 2 miles away with them also being tracked via GPS at camp. The 16yr old's Cat had a 40" and 12" light bar on and headlights on, a whip and were driving at what would seem like normal speeds. They made a terrible mistake and didn't heed rules of one of the intersections. They collided T-bone passenger side with a black car with a single occupant traveling at a cross intersection at normal speed. The 16 yr old had superficial injuries such as bruises from the harness, neck strap from helmet and a few cuts on his shins from dashboard. The father was following close behind and
of course not involved in the collision. The father started CPR immediately and handed him over to medical when they arrived.
Medical and CHP were there very fast as well.
The Coroner, believe that the 11yr old boy died instant from whiplash due to head and added weight of helmet and most likely not prepared to brace to collide with a car. They worked on him for hours and did everything they could. The scene of the crash made no sense as they weren't traveling at high speed, the damage to both vehicles etc was not that bad. The circumstances of a 1500 lb SXS hitting a 3k lb car caused the SXS to come to an instant stop causing the overwhelming undue force on the boy. The Woman driver of the car sustained minor injuries. We send prayers and wish for a speedy recovery to the driver of the car involved and praise the teams of medical for all they did. Its just so tragic.

What a sad story, I hate to hear about accidents like this. We all preach safety and suggest to use helmets and harnesses and then something like this happens. Very sad.
