Check clutch, belt, is it running badly?, how many miles are on it?, is it stuck in low?, are your spark plug boots pushed on good?

I would rule out belt or clutch, the motor will still rev with a bad either.
Hard to diagnose with-out any info on how the motor is running!
I know if a spark plug boot falls off that's about all the motor will do, but the motor will have a dull sound to it.
    Probably something electrical.

Pretty sure I've definitely seen folks with issues similar to this have it end up being the belt.
