    Sld

Has anyone ever had a sld slip going down hill with engine holding back?

The SLD isn't directional. If it slips during engine braking, I would think it would slip at anything more than about half-throttle when accelerating. They usually make quite a racket when they slip.

The clutch will occasionally disengage on our '15, allowing the machine to freewheel when running down hill. A quick blip of the throttle will re-engage the clutch and resume engine-braking. Could this be what is happening?

It is not the clutch disengagein it feels like a gear skips. It pops 1 time and that's it until it does it again just randomly.

Get on some hard pack road or pavement, go to 2wd low range and frog it. You will find the answer you seek..

You kind of started off pointing us at the SLD. You should probably give us a better description of exactly what happened.

Was the suspension active, or was the trail relatively smooth?

2018 wildcat 1000x 1300 miles popping noise going down hill keeps getting worse just like a motorcycle slipping a tooth on a sprocket. The gear shifter does not move. It slips and catches. Only does it down hill in high gear while holding back with the clutch engaged 3500 and below on rpm.

Can you feel your 'cat jolted a bit when this happens? Have you tried the same hill in Low? Low gives more engine braking, so if it is almost anything in the drive train other than a bad high gear, it would be worse. If it is a bad gear, it should be doing it under acceleration.

If you 'cat is smooth when the popping noise happens, I doubt that it could be anything serious. My '15 burbles and crackles through the exhaust when using engine braking.

No other gear except high real bad jerk and pop feels like it free wheels for a split second then it is fine until it does it again

Your symptoms fit normal clutch operation:

It only happens under 3500 rpm (the clutch will hold engagement at higher rpm, but it will disengage at lower speeds/lower rpm)
It doesn't do it in Low (engine speed vs. road speed is higher in Low, so there is more engine braking to keep the clutch engaged)
It doesn't do it under acceleration

The only thing that doesn't fit with normal clutch operation is that I've never had mine re-engage (that I can remember) without blipping the throttle.

My 16 X ltd did the same thing that you are saying.. going down hill in high there would be a pop/jerk from the back.. I was going to replace the sld, but traded the Cat off last year.. asked the dealer how the new owner likes it and how has it been running and he said been going good, so, sounds like nothing broke..haha
