Question de Anza Works Door Insert Gaps?

Just put on the set of de Anza door inserts and I must say I'm a bit in a quandry as to why the seem to overhang to much towards the front of the door frame and have to much of a gap towards the rear. Seems like the pre drilled mounting holes should be moved about 1/2" forward. At firs I thought mine may be off, but they are the same on their website model. Any thoughts those of you that have these?

I like mine. They are basic, yet do the job.
