4 wheel drive not engaging

Last night I seemed to having a problem. Got hung up on a Rock last night. So I flip the 4 wheel drive button and a friend noticed the front tires weren't driving me. So after getting winched back out I notice that when you press the 4 wheel drive button the dash indicator lights up for 4×4 and then for different lock but I don't hear the actuator operating. You just hit the switch and no sound whatsoever. Where I start looking to fix this. I got a trip in 2 weeks and need the 4 wheel drive to work. Thanks. Mike

unplug the plug at the actuator on front diff blow out both ends and look at the connections make sure the are clean and then apply dielectric grease to both ends and then try it if that dont work make sure you have power at the plug when switch is pushed also check switch on dash for same things. Good luck

Good advice by hoghntr204. Probably is the actuator.

Should be covered by warranty.

That was my first failure around 400miles. Thank you warranty.

My 3 year old 2012 Cat has a "delay" in engagement and also in disengagement. Sometimes I'll hit the 4wd and then a few seconds later bouncing thru the rocks "Bang" it engages.

Other times trying to disengage lock (so I can steer) it takes a bit of forward and back to get it to let go.

After seeing the little plastic gears inside the actuator and studying how the actuators work it is a neat design but seems like the little motor(s) in the actuator could stand to be more robust to overcome the friction of the crud that gets into the seals.

My demented little pea brain has been formulating a "manual lever system" to control the little push rods (and do away with the electric plastic actuator box all together).:p

I have not dis-assembled the old one yet. I was thinking about doing levers and cable lock up myself..

You got pics?
