Hey guys, so ditched (ditching) our old trail and bought a 2016 sport with 1300 kms (that's about 807 miles for my American friends lol) anyways transferred a few universal part over to the sport and the windshield is pretty hazed and scratched up....there's a company in quebec that sells a metal frame for a glass front windshield (laminated of course) but I'm cheaper than 400 bucks and I want to bounce an idea off you people. Instead of buying or even fabricating my own frame from scratch, any ideas on just cutting out my old lexan and having the windshield guy fit a glass one in there? I initially thought the lexan would flex too much but I know nothing about it. Anyone think it could work, if not just like that, maybe even with some ingenuity? Thoughts? I know hard coated "plastics" can be pretty good but I also know glass is way more scratch resistant, especially for the price to replace once it does scratch.... $250.00 glass vs $500.00 plastic.

...cause of the high prices for AC parts here in europe- i let a company cut out a MAKROLON windshild for me- was bout half prize worked great- i reused some clamps and parts from the arctic cat halfwindshield to mount it ;-)
...flexex a bit when strong wind or goin fast- but never a problem;-)

You can try using a torch to smooth out the plastic. A propane torch from your local hardware store will do the trick. Test it on an edge to get your distance and speed and keep steady. I've found it best to keep moving constantly, so you don't get spot heating.
Makrolon is good too, its the European equivalent of Lexan. In the US it's a bit cheaper too, last I checked.

I have had the below setup for about 4 years now. Started with a 3pc windshield design. I am a DIY guy so when the middle pc got scratched up I had a glass place in town cut me a laminated pc of auto glass and made an aluminum frame and set it in there. They made me that pc of glass for about 50 bucks! The plan was to make it larger if I liked it but this works very well for us. When its hot I can remove it. Its held on by polaris velcro windshield clamps. I did get one crack right in the centre of the glass but its no big deal. It does get hauled in an enclosed trailer so I am not sure how it would do on the road exposed but it works ok when doing road portions. Nice thing about this design is I can clamp it to the cage behind our seats and take it along as well and put it on or take it off on the trail.
