On my two week vacation one of our rides was through the beautiful Lead King Basin in Colorado. It was awesome, the beauty helped ease the understanding that if you made one wrong move you could wake up dead. There were several avalanche areas. One had been cleared the other was where the Sport got stuck. However, everyone was able to make it through from the other direction. The camera doesn't do the views and cliffs justice. Hope yall enjoy. P.S. I wish RockHopper would have made it.

How many miles was the 'Lead King' trail?

And, do you have other trails with videos to put up?

I think it was a 20 mile loop. Some of which was pretty rough. I have a ton of footage of trails surrounding Rifle CO. I just have been distracted with all things TEXAS now that I am back. I can put you in contact with a few guys over in Rifle if you would like. They are always riding up there.

Yup,

When you start doing stills, vids and GPS tracks you need a secretary to organize everything. I do a new track every day and give it a new Color to help determine where you been vs where your going.. Looks like you staged down by the fire hall. The devil's Punch Bowl is good for the heart eh?

Yeah, I heard about that but my tour guides (my buddies) we to busy arguing about where it was so I just chose one of the places lol. Yeah I totally understand what you mean about keeping track of so much footage. Half the time I just say screw it and live my life camera free.

colorado is def. on my wishlist - such beaut. mountains and trails!!

whats the best time to travel there- means less crowded but good to ride...
The snow in the high country can limit you prior to mid June, early July in some places depending on the year. I would say after Labor Day and before mid October would be the best.

Where about are you at mtnxr?

As for visiting, I would say mid August. Anything after Labor Day and you could get snowed on in the high country.

Cool! Maybe we can meet up for a ride some time.

You're right, October is about when you can get a big storm that can strand you. I was just referring to being snowed on at all.

I went in the middle of June there was some trail traffic but once you get past the mill and all the hippies in there subaru's its pretty chill. The trail did get pretty sketchy at time but it was awesome. There wasn't a huge amount of tourist in Rile! lol There isn't even a bar there for crying out load! Glenwood is a different story though. A bigger city with a lot more to see and do. Hot springs, bars, and Doc Holiday's grave.

The only trouble we ran into on the trail was that avalanche area featured on the video. The sport almost flipped. The opposite direction on the loop there was another avalanche but a dozer had cleared the path. We were able to cross coming from the opposite direction for some reason. Other than that the trails were clear of snow. I would highly recommend going out there. The trail system outside Rifle is rumored to reach as far as Utah. I will be posting a video of those trails and Rob Roy trails in Wyoming pretty soon.

I would love to ride the Hatfield and McCoy trail system one day. That's just a serious drive for me. I do it when I'm rich and famous lol
