Loud noise in drive.

I just got a 2015 Wildcat Sport Limited. It started making a loud rapid banging noise and then lost power. I think the clutch may be blown. I found a youtube video with the exact same noise, but no further information.
Does anyone have any idea?

either clutch or you blew your belt. Belt way cheaper. But sometimes those crappy belts people run that aren’t carbon fiber, when they blow they leave all kinda cord that gets wrapped around clutch parts and springs and wrecks the clutch assembly. I’ve even seen them bust the clutch housing. Do yourself a favor when you put it back together get a gates carbon fiber belt. It takes the heat way better and can handle abuse. But you have to break it in just like all belts or you’ll ruin it in less than 10 minutes.

The belt looked fine. The dealer called telling me he wanted to charge 4 hours teardown as one mechanic thought it was the engine, while another mechanic thought it was the clutch
I hate to say it but the noise in that video sounds like engine noise.
4hrs seems unrealistic, since all you have to do is pull CVT cover to confirm belt, clutch or engine....about 1/2hr should do it.

Any word what the issue was.
Pulled clutches off, still making the noise, dealer had a new clearance engine, so i bought it $2500. Unless they find out what it is for less, Ill rebuild old engine.

Never pull that cover off! All the life blood will drain out.

You got some misunderstandings about belts. Belts don't need to be carbon fiber to be good. And belts that last forever aren't better either. Different compounds have their pros and cons. If you get super long lasting compound your belt may last longer but it grips less just like street tires. A hard compound street tire has terrible braking distance so you trade safty and performance for longer lasting tire. Same physics applies to belts too. Those hard and tough belts may not snap as easy but they slip a lot more AND wear out your clutches faster. No one likes grooves in the clutches, that affects shifting smoothness.

Nuff said about belt material. Now the only reason I got a spare Gates belt in 2016 when my Sport was new was because the price of the AC OEM belt was $170 at the time and the Gates was $70. Plus I figured since it was aftermarket it must be just as good or better than the OEM one. That's genrally the rule in aftermarket stuff. However, for some reason when it comes to belts I later learned that the OEM belts were the best- go figure. And when it comes to the Sport or Trail there clearly is no better belt than the OEM at this time. Which is why, time after time on here when asked which belt one should get 9 out of 10 say the OEM belt. And now that the OEM belt can be purchased for $80 from MLS and a few others there is simple no reason to pass that up to save $20 and get an inferior belt.

I got the call today, the previous owner had been running a K&N filter dry, sucking dust and dirt into the engine. It destroyed crank, valves, basically need a new motor. The dealer had a good deal they were able to purchase cheap from Arctic when Textron purchased them. Half of what it normally would be.
Sorry to hear that, normally these engines are trouble free. I have always liked foam filters for the dirt and K&N for the street. At least get the pre-charger (i think thats the name) that covers the K&N along with the proper oiling obviously.

Must have been a lot of dirt and sand to get passed the piston rings and destroy the crank. I mean you would have to have almost no compression on the top end due to the rings allowing blow through, it wouldn’t even run at all I would think. Remember to change your oil more often than the last guy

Yeah it started banging and lost power, had to push it on the trailer.
Are you putting the new motor in or is your dealer? How much was the motor? I wonder how much to install?

Yard card it. ask your dealer
Mine made this noise the other day going down a hill without pressing the gas. Then when fully stopped the noise stopped. Did t lose power or anything And then was fine to drive home 3 miles. I checked the belt once it cooled down and it’s seemed fine And hasn’t done it since.
I have that noise now but I truly DNT believe it's the motor. It DNT happen when I gas it jus when I throw it in a drive gear. I dropped skid plate and found shavings on top of plate, driver rear side. The boots intact and tight and the belt is fine, where do I look NXT please??
