so i bought a oil change kit from the dealer, they gave me the 15w-50 kit for my 2014 wildcat trail.... which apparantly is the wrong oil... 0w-40 is reccomended.... so i dont think the oil will hurt it, cause i have already drained the oil before i caught the mistake....

now the filter that came with the kit is apparantly a different size.. model is 0812-029..... i went to countrycats website and the filter they say is the right one is 0812-034.

does anyone know if the 029 will fit?

by the way, i dont think ill trust a dealer again.

Napa gold filters were on sale (3.79) picked up half a dozen. No reason to over tighten oil filters, contact the gasket then half to three quarter turn. That's why most manufactures put them in a hard to reach location that way most people cant over tighten them.

oil filter should be tightened by hand, and if its clean when removing should be able to get it off by hand...not sure why some people wanna tighten drain plugs and oil filters to 10000000 ft-lb

Go with Mobil 1 0-40. And a hi flo or k&n 138 or 621. We won't lead you wrong or tell you to do something us others aren't doing our selves.

My dealer put in 5w30 Suzuki oil on my first service... When I asked him about it the service manager said it's AC warranty approved and it's what they use on everything they sell or service.

Unless another dealer chimes in I'm calling your dealer a liar. All the AC manuals and service manuals call for 0w-40 Full Synthetic, that oil right there isn't even full synthetic…..will it still be ok, more than likely it will be, but think the only reason your dealer said that is thats the all round oil, and they don't have to worry about different oil for different machines. That to me is just a lazy dealer.

I also run the mobil 1 oil and K&N filter.

The Trail has a very high oil pressure until warmed up, also still on high side even after that. A thicker oil can run that pressure up even higher and its already high enough. As said above, its the oil AC says to go with, 0W-40 Full Synthetic.

The 0w40 is what is specified by AC as the oil of choice, going with the 15w50 means the oil will be thicker on start up at colder temperatures. If this is harmful for the Trail I don't know for sure as it depends on a variety of things inside the engine.

You guys sure that 15w50 is the wrong oil? That I should get 0w40 instead? Please explain if possible

I get my K&N off ebay and they are like a dollar more than the hi-flo, but they are larger capacity so I like that feature, have no need for the nut since I'm the one putting them on I can always get them off easy by hand.

Both the K & N 138, and 621 fit both the Trail and the Wildcat. The 138 is a direct replacement for the AC filter, the 621 is longer, filters a little more oil.

The K&N 621 is also a fit, and is a bit longer. Both 138 & 621 fit.

Take it back and get the right kit, that one is not for a Trail. Better yet, get your money back and go get Mobil 1 0-40w(5 gal at Wal-Mart for $26) and a K&N 621 filter (it has a nut in top for a socket).
