Im looking at building my 12 engine here pretty soon. Just a DIY kinda guy with plenty of engine building experience. Thought I would see what information is available on the boards before I dive into anything.

Anybody know the stock compression ratio off hand?

Who is making cams for the wildcat? I see web is offering welded cams....Im guessing Dasa Dan worked with them on the profile? Anything else available?

Planning to check P:V and P:H clearances and tighten everything up. Want to keep it on 93 pump gas though...

Probably wont go aftermarket pistons unless the OEMs are big heavy bastards. Anyone with experience have thoughts on the stock pistons?

Anybody willing to share info it would be greatly appreciated!

Just a thought, but have you compared prices of a build, compared to an "X" motor? Don't know the cost of either, but I do know that no matter what you think a build up is going to cost, it always turns into much more, LOL. Been there, done that!

If you tell the group what your going to with the cat it would get better response . Dirt sand rock trails short course racing the list goes on.what do you want it to be when it done? Honestly trade up to X model would be a good start better clutch and more horsepower . Maybe some guys that have hopped up the 12 models will respond with the cost for comparison to trading up good luck

I mostly trail ride (dirt)...hills, mud, rocks, and some cruising.

Im really not interested in trading for an X... The fox shocks mean nothing to me and I think the X hp should be easily attainable on the 12 models. I would like to have the team clutch, but for my riding so far I am plenty happy with the wet setup.

I've got a nice low budge plan in mind, but not sure if the OEM pistons are worth keeping.

Have not seen any info on stock Compression ratio for the 12s vs the X models. I would guess that a big part of the hp bump for the X comes from compression and cams.

i think stock 12 is 9.1

Before I decided to go with the turbo I was considering adding horsepower with Speedwerx stuff. When I talked to them I was told that their cams are the single biggest HP gain. He said they make a huge difference. Head work complemented the cams nicely but didn't make a big difference alone. Increasing the compression only raised the HP a little.

from what i have been watching going on in trying to get more power out of the 2012 cat is to not go over board so the stock starter will still turn it over with out burning up in a day or a week . i have been hoping someone would do a build with bigger valves some porting and cams an springs an exuast an flash or controler with dyno runs before an after . BUDGET BUILD for the masses ?

I have priced out this parts for the X engine and other required parts. It's over $7000 in parts. Crazy what they get for a little more HP and a team clutch... I will tell you a have a complete stage 2 muzzy bb engine 2013 case (Tennessee's engine) with valve job, cams, port and polish intake, injectors, pim2 with data box for $3500. It does need a clutch though. The belt alignment was off my first ride out and I lost the primary. :( I've decided to throw my Cat in the Z-1 swap waiting list at GB16's shop. My loss could be your gain. I paid over $6k for this engine and put 37 miles on it.

Is there a company making upgraded rods yet? I got a quote for one off custom rods from Carillo a while back, nut the lead time was like 8 weeks!!! Price wasn't bad though. :)
